A Nurse Practitioners, also known as NP’s, has a focus on preventative care and health promotion, and may spend more time with patients compared to doctors. Nurse practitioners are also called upon to take many different roles, such as conducting research or teaching.

• Complete a comprehensive health history and assessment
• Formulate and communicate a diagnosis, taking a differential diagnosis into consideration
• Prescribe all medications including controlled drugs and substances
• Dispense, sell, and compound medications
• Order and interpret screening and diagnostic tests
• Diagnose health and illness conditions
• Discuss health care options with patients and make decisions about treatment
• Treat and manage acute and chronic illness
• Make referrals to specialist physicians as necessary
• Blood, X ray, Ultrasound requisitions
